The New York Jets appear to have been dealt a tough blow to their defense.

Veteran safety Chuck Clark suffered a potentially serious knee injury during practice, according to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt. He’s seeking a second opinion, but “it doesn’t look great,” Rosenblatt added.

The Jets acquired Clark in a March trade with the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick.

The 28-year-old was expected to start alongside Jordan Whitehead to begin the 2023 campaign. However his reported knee injury puts his status for a Week 1 matchup against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills into question.

Clark spent the first six seasons of his career in Baltimore and is coming off a solid 2022 campaign in which he posted four pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a career-high 101 tackles in 17 games.

Luckily, the Jets were able to sign former Green Bay Packers safety Adrian Amos to a contract on Tuesday. He’ll now likely slot into the starting lineup alongside Whitehead.

Amos spent the last four seasons in Green Bay after beginning his career with the Chicago Bears in 2015. During the 2022 campaign, he posted one interception, five pass breakups, one fumble recovery and 102 tackles in 17 games.

The 2023 season is expected to be a big one for the Jets following the acquisition of star quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Packers.

Gang Green is looking to make the postseason for the first time since the 2010 campaign and is hoping for a Super Bowl appearance for the first time since it won its last championship during the 1968 season with Joe Namath under center.
