After being released by the Minnesota Vikings on Friday, running back Dalvin Cook hasn’t drawn the amount of interest he expected to receive on the open market.
During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Tuesday, the 27-year-old told Tom Pelissero that he wants to sign with a team that would appreciate what he brings to the table.
“I want the value. I want somebody who wants Dalvin Cook,” he said.
Cook added that he is in no rush to sign a contract and is waiting for the right situation. He noted he’s been playing through a torn labrum over the past few years, but his shoulder “is feeling great” heading into the 2023 NFL season.
Despite his injury, Cook was selected to his fourth straight Pro Bowl last season after rushing for 1,173 yards with eight touchdowns while adding 39 receptions for 295 yards and two more scores. However, the Vikings released him because of his $14.1 million cap hit and their failed attempts to find a trade offer they deemed satisfactory for him.
While the Florida State product is one of the top players at his position, the league is no longer doling out major money to veteran running backs.
Former Dallas Cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott is also unsigned despite being released in March, and New York Giants star Saquon Barkley is engaged in negotiations this offseason in which he recently threatened to sit out the 2023 campaign if he doesn’t receive a long-term deal.
One team to watch while Cook is on the open market is the Miami Dolphins. They reportedly “came very close to a trade” with the Vikings for him in March, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, and could still be interested in his services.
However, it’s unclear if Cook will receive the big-money offer he’s hoping for from the Dolphins or any other team.
