South African middle distance star Jeanni Metzler is ready to extend her podium streak this season with a race on familiar roads at IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder this weekend.
The Colorado resident, who has enjoyed a successful start to the year with a win at IRONMAN 70.3 St George and third at IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga, is one of the favourites for the win on Saturday in the ‘Mecca of triathlon’.
Second at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in 2021, Metzler shared her excitement to be building back towards worlds this season and can’t wait to race in front of friends and family.
“There is definitely some comfort in knowing the course”
With Boulder sitting at just over 1,600m, competitors that are well adapted to the altitude will likely have an advantage on race day, with Metzler adding that knowing the course is an important factor as well.
“I am looking forward to another opportunity to race and this time I get to do it in my home town.
“There is definitely some comfort in knowing the course and not having to travel is a huge plus so I am looking forward to it.”
Happy hunting grounds
Having raced the event six times before, with three podium performances including a win in 2017, Metzler knows the race like the back of her hand.
More importantly, the South African knows how her efforts on this course match up to previous years leading into the world championships.
“I am looking forward to giving it my best effort as I build into the year and build into my fitness. I get to see where I am at as the weeks now begin to lead into the world championships.
“I am just looking forward to having another go in a race with all my family here to support me, all is good!”
