Boxing fans can expect Devin Haney, who’s coming off a great win against Vasyl Lomachenko, to see again inside the ring soon. His potential opponents are being lined up already, and many are speculating it to be Gervonta Davis. Mostly because, Davis’ team has shown interest in sending a deal to Haney’s team, so it’s interesting to see where it’ll go. Even Calvin Ford, Tank’s lifelong trainer, assured fans that the fight between Hamey and Davis will surely happen. And of course, both boxers are in the top tier of their division.
Haney is currently the undisputed Lightweight champion and Davis holds the WBA World Lightweight title. But currently, there aren’t any updates, seemingly, due to the imprisonment of Davis after his house-arrest violation. On the night of November 2020, Gervonta Davis got arrested in a hit-and-run case and was booked for almost 14 traffic violations leading up to the actual charge. Davis was then on trial, and after the verdict, he got filed for a house arrest of 3 months just a month ago.
But Davis allegedly violated the house arrest, before even a month was completed, and he’s got to serve jail time for the rest of his sentence. Due to this unfortunate incident, it turns out that Davis’s team will not be able to fulfill their promise.

Gervonta Davis’s team wish to make Tank vs. Haney happen
There have been multiple occasions when Tank’s lifelong trainer, Calvin Ford, has talked about the prospects of the Tank and Haney fight. The first time Ford hinted toward this anticipated bout was before Haney’s bout against Lomachenko. Ford talked with Boxingscene.com on April 28th about this. He stated, “These fights are gonna happen. They just gotta continue doing what they need to do to get their numbers up, to make it make sense.”
Then, in his conversation with ESNEWS, Calvin Ford was again asked about the potential fight after Haney defeated Loma by a unanimous decision. The interviewer, Elie Seckbach also told him that Haney’s former opponent, Jorge Linares, sided with Tank for the win against Haney by a KO. To this, Ford said, “They don’t really want that fight to tell you the truth.” He also added that they’ll be waiting for the number and see if it makes sense to make the bout happen or not.

But the jail time of Tank may hamper the scheduling of this bout as of now. Also, just a few hours ago, Davis also did an Instagram Live from his prison cell and called the judge who sent him to jail “crazy”, while explaining his situation.
On the other hand, Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney had a contradictory statement to what Ford stated in his interview. Bill threw some light on the matter, as he revealed the recent updates regarding their negotiation with Davis’s team.
Devin Haney’s father speaks about the Gervonta Davis fight
Bill Haney took out the time to have a conversation with AKHi TV, and there he was asked about what was happening with the potential ‘Tank’ vs. Haney fight, and if it going to happen next. So, Bill Haney joked about it, saying that there was ‘a paper plane flying past their house’ but unfortunately, it didn’t stop for them. But then he got serious and revealed that he hasn’t received anything yet.

Bill said, “They’ve never sent over anything to me, they’ve never given me any indication that something was on the way, be looking out for it.” He also stated that he’s only heard things as of now, just like the interviewer has. According to Bill, Davis’ team hasn’t tried to contact them yet.

Then at last after getting tired of rumors and heresy, he finally said, “So to me, it’s just talk.” Well, the major reason behind ‘Tank’s’ team being lowkey about the Haney fight, could be his jail time right now. So, it’s still not certain whether ‘Tank’s’ team will approach Haney’s team until their boxer is out and fine. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comments section.
